Rotherham United have fielded complaints from a small number of fans who claim Tuesday’s game was ‘spoiled’ for them when they were asked to move from one corner of the ground.

“The whole thing with stewards and security went on for over 15 minutes during the first half, people became irritable and angry and it totally spoiled the night out,” said Millers fan Tony Lowe from Rotherham.

“I was with my son in the north-west corner area and, about 20 minutes into the game, stewards asked everyone in there, about 40 people, to move,” said Tony.

“They said the stadium manager wanted the stadium to look tidy so wanted everyone moving. It was pedantic, unnecessary, I was appalled.”

Chief Operating Officer Paul Douglas - who said no steward was instructed to move fans to ensure a ‘tidy’ stadium - said tickets were not sold for that area.

“We have had issues with fans migrating from the North End into the Main and Family Stands,” he said. “This corner was designated a sterile area and fans shouldn’t have been in there and so stewards were obliged to move them to the seat applicable to their ticket.

“We want people to enjoy their visit and will look into this. If there’s demand for this corner area of the ground then we’ll ticket it and possibly steward it differently. We don’t want confrontation.”
