ROTHERHAM United have decided to try and beat the wet weather by going for some sunshine in Portugal.
They head out to the Algarve next weekend for some warm-weather training and it will make a definite change from the conditions since the players reported back for pre-season work over a week ago - barely a day has gone by without rain falling.
When the opportunity arose to spend a few days in the sun, manager Steve Evans decided it was too good a chance to miss, and the difficulties associated with constantly training in wet conditions helped swing the decision.
The squad will set off on Saturday evening, although they have the first pre-season game that day at Parkgate, a game now brought forward to a noon kick-off.
They will get four full days in Portugal before returning on Thursday afternoon, two days before the opening friendly game at the New York Stadium against Barnsley.
Tickets for that game and the other three friendlies went on sale to season-ticket-holders only at the weekend from the club offices at Mangham House, Parkgate. General sale starts on Saturday (9am).
