Adam Collin is ready to fight Scott Shearer to be first-choice goalkeeper at Rotherham United.
The 28-year-old, one of half a dozen new signings recruited by Millers manager Steve Evans over the summer, insists he has not joined the League One club just to make up the numbers.
The former Carlisle United player told The Star: “I knew when I signed that the manager wanted two senior goalkeepers to compete for the number one jersey.
“It is up to Scott and I to battle it out and earn the right to play. We will push each other and that can only benefit the club. But I am confident in my own ability. I want to play at the highest level that I possibly can.”
Collins, contracted to Rotherham until 2015, recognises he needs to impress in pre-season training and in the warm-up matches to force his way into the starting line-up.
“Scott and I know we have to perform well in the friendlies and then the manager will decide on who starts the season,” he said.
Ex-Millers defender Tom Newey has joined Oxford United on trial.
