Play-off-chasing Rotherham United will have to smash their club record transfer fee to prize Stevie May away from St Johnstone, The Star can reveal.
Sources north of the border say the Millers, who are in ninth position in League One, have spoken to Saints regarding the Scotland Under-21 international, who has netted 11 goals in 18 matches this season.
Rotherham boss Steve Evans claims they have tabled six-figure bids for two unnamed players.
“We have been told that both bids are under due consideration,” Evans said.
But The Star understands St Johnstone have yet to receive an offer for May and any club looking to sign the 21-year-old will have to pay in the region of £500,000. The Millers record outlay is £150,000.
Rotherham’s other transfer target plies his trade in England.
