Ten-man Rotherham United came out fighting in the second half but all the damage had been done in the first period.

Ten-man Rotherham United came out fighting in the second half but all the damage had been done in the first period.

With Jordan Bowery sent off and his team trailing 2-0, manager Steve Evans sent out his team after the break in a bold 4-3-2 formation and they took the game to their high-flying visitors.

Substitute Matt Derbyshire missed a golden chance to pull a goal back in the 83rd minute, dragging his shot wide of the near post when he was clean through on the left.

Lee Tomlin wrapped up the win four minutes later, shooting across Adam Collin into the net after a mazy run.

A disastrous first half for the Millers saw them concede two goals and finish a man down.

Sub Jordan Bowery received a straight red card on the half-hour mark just five minutes after coming on for the injured Alex Revell.

He flicked out a foot at the grounded Ben Gibson after the officials had wrongly given a foul against him.

By then the home side were already trailing 2-0 against an impressive, well-oragnised Boro side.

Patrick Bamford produced a quality turn and shot in the eighth minute to put the visitors ahead and 11 minutes later dangerman Yanick Wildschut produced a lovely piece of skill before firing home the second.

Revell came off looking groggy after Daniel Ayala, going for a high ball, chose to lead with his foot in the centre-circle and made contact with the home striker’s head.
