Rotherham slipped to their first Championship defeat in seven matches as they paid the price for missed first-half chances at Brentford.

Steve Evans’ men had been by far the better side before the break, but Matt Derbyshire twice fluffed his lines when clean through and Richard Smallwood also missed a golden opportunity from inside the box.

Stuart Dallas fired the home side into a 57th-minute lead and, although Derbyshire had a shot cleared off the line a minute later, the Bees could have added to their total.

Adam Collin saved superbly from Andre Gray, Jota fired over when he should have scored and Alex Pritchard hit the post.

Bu Paul Green almost rescued a point in the 86th-minute, his flashing header bringing a flying save from David Button.

In that encouraging first half all three Millers new boys showed up well.

Attacking midfielder Jack Barmby showed an eye for a swift and dangerous pass in his first ever Championship match, attacker Danny Ward was quick and good on the turn while winger Adam Hammill had moments of trickery.
