ROTHERHAM United are to get their own training ground.
For the past three years, since leaving Millmoor and the training complex at Hooton Lodge, they have not had their own training headquarters.
Chairman Tony Stewart made it his mission to have a new stadium and also their own training HQ.
The club are keeping their options open on sites. They have been looking into possible development at Parkgate FC’s Green Lane site, where they currently train, but they have also identified another potential, and likely, venue.
The site which has attracted Rotherham’s attention is the former Avesta Sports Club on Bawtry Road on the Tinsley/Brinsworth city boundary.
It has football pitches and two cricket pitches. Outokumpu, the Finnish company which took over Avesta, played South Yorkshire League cricket there to 2005 and it is believed to be considered ideal for such a development.
