Rotherham United captain Ryan Cresswell has admitted his ‘surprise’ at the club’s release of Nick Fenton.
The 31-year-old defender, who made more than 100 appearances for the Millers after arriving from Grimsby Town in 2008, was one of several players who new manager Andy Scott is allowing to leave Don Valley Stadium during the summer.
Cresswell praised his former teammate and said he didn’t think it would be long before Fenton, a veteran of nearly 450 league games in his career, signed at another club.
He said: “I think Fenners has done well and served the club well while he was here.
“To be honest, it came as a surprise that he wasn’t offered another contract, but I’m sure he’ll have a few things lined up.”
