PIE in the sky? Well, no longer it isn’t and Rotherham United chairman Tony Stewart stood on the back row of the new ground’s burgeoning main West Stand yesterday and admitted he was more impressed than ever.
“It’s better than even I thought it would be, it’s impressive, it really is,” he said.
“Up on that top step, the view is fantastic. In addition to some good football, fans are going to see views of Rotherham that a lot of people have never seen from that perspective.
“The steepness is exactly what we wanted and this will maximise better views, better seating and boost the acoustics.”
The occasion was announcement of the ground’s first sponsorship with Rotherham company Eric Twigg Foods and their name and Pukka Pie brand will be on the stand.
Company chairman Eric Twigg and son Matthew, the managing director, are both lifelong Millers fans and the company have a 30 year association with the club.
“It’s great a good local company, with a long association with us, is the first one involved,” said Stewart.
