rotherham United could be set to forge a link with Manchester City, the world’s richest club.
Millers chairman Tony Stewart, speaking to fans last night, said City were under discussion as the possible first opponents when Rotherham open their new ground.
He said he had been speaking with City legend Mike Summerbee, a director, and he told the fans that there was interest in involvement between the clubs and that Summerbee had made the suggestion.
Stewart, speaking in front of an impression of the new stadium at the Millers Trust Forum, received a standing ovation and he said everything was still on course for the August 2012 opening.
“This will be a ground not just for the club but for the whole town, the whole community of Rotherham and will make a huge difference,” he said.
Fans were told that the club will operate a loyalty scheme to benefit those fans who have supported the club throughout the move to the Don Valley Stadium to ensure they benefit at the new ground.
Ronnie Moore said Ryan Cresswell would be back against Bury tomorrow.
