When the decks began to be cleared last weekend, the focus switched to the replacements who will be coming into the New York Stadium.
Millers boss Steve Evans has promised all along some movement in January and made no secret that he would be going for quality rather than quantity.
His intention was to up standards, make it a better side by dint of his January recruitment.
Therefore, it put real pressure on the Rotherham manager to come up with the goods. He has always said he would bring people in who are better than the ones going out or already there.
Firstly, he had to act simply because the four departures in the past week had left the squad perilously short on numbers.
As things stood on Monday morning, and with Craig Morgan and Claude Davis suspended for today’s game with Crewe Alexandra, the squad was 14-strong with the 15th being young defender Dan Rowe.
Evans began to correct that particular numbers game when he brought in Miles Addison on loan from Bournemouth.
He then added a second one when bringing in striker Tom Hitchcock on a month’s loan from QPR.
