ALEX Revell staked his claim for a place in Rotherham United’s starting line-up for their trip to Hull City this weekend by scoring two goals at non-league Stamford.

The powerful striker scored two goals after the break last night, including one from the penalty spot after his strike partner, Kieran Agard, had been upended in the area.

Agard, who agreed a two-year deal last month, broke the deadlock after two minutes, holding off two challenges before firing a shot beyond Elliott Shilliam.

Gareth Evans rattled the crossbar with a fierce shot from distance but the visitors extended their advantage three minutes into the second half thanks to Revell’s spot-kick.

Jake Gibson reduced Stamford’s arrears after the hour mark before Revell tapped in from close range.

ROTHERHAM: Warrington; Rose, Johnson, Taylor, Lucas; Ainsworth, O’Connor, Pringle, Evans; Agard, Revell. Substitutes: Byran, Schofield, Denton, Rowe, Woods, Walker.
