WANT-away Rotherham United striker Adam Le Fondre, nicknamed Alf, has slammed his own supporters who have criticised him for wanting to leave the club.
The prolific forward, who has bagged 54 goals in 100 matches for the Millers, has stated he wants to play at a higher level having become frustrated at the club’s inability to get promotion out of League Two.
But Le Fondre, signed from Rochdale in 2009, has incurred the wrath of some Rotherham fans for chasing a move away while still having one year left to run on his contract at the Don Valley Stadium.
The 24-year-old has hit back at his critics, writing on his Twitter account: “Would like to point out to ill informed rotherham fans! That I didn’t actually ask for a 3 year! I asked for a 2 year!
“But u don’t pay 150k for some1 an let them walk away after 2 years! So that wernt the reason!
“I’m not blaming all fans just 1s who put rubbish about me!! When they don’t know the facts! They could easily just ask me!!”
He added: “No more talk now! What will be will be!!
Le Fondre believes he is “definitely good enough” to play in League One or the Championship but said he will only go in the summer if the move is “right for me”.
