Rotherham United's survival hopes suffered another setback as they lost 2-0 at Championship promotion contenders Burnley.
In new boss Neil Warnock's second match in charge, the Millers were well beaten and could have no complaints about the scoreline against superior opponents.
The outcome might have been different had Joe Newell made the most of a golden chance in the 80th minute, when the score was still 1-0, instead of shooting wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Goals from Sam Vokes in the 27th minute and Scott Arfield three minutes from time mean Rotherham remain entrenched in the drop zone.
The Millers battled hard from the start and restricted Burnley to little more than a series of corners, but that changed on 27 minutes when debutant Lloyd Doyley trod on George Boyd's trailing foot just inside the penalty area.
Vokes stepped up to convert the spot-kick to give the visitors a mountain to climb against Sean Dyche's team.
Andre Gray hit the bar for the home side with a header after 35 minutes, while Grant Ward, on as a substitute for injured namesake Danny, responded by sending a dipping long-range effort just over seven minutes later in Rotherham's only real first-half effort on goal.
The home side were edgy in the second half but still created plenty of openings and Arfield wrapped up proceedings when he shot home from Gray's supply.
Warnock had handed a first start to new signing Doyley at centre-half and opted for Greg Halford at right-back, with Frazer Richardson moving over to the left to cover Joe Mattock's red-card absence.
Doyley, a veteran of more than 400 games for Watford, had joined the Millers earlier in the week. Two other new signings, goalkeeper Paddy Kenny and left winger Jerome Thomas, were on the bench, while striker Leon Best was included in the squad, after groin surgery, for the first time since his November 21 debut at Leeds United.
Best came on as a second-half sub but was unable to influence the outcome on a day when the match and result went very much to form.
