NEW winger Dan Kearns is the type of player who “gets fans off their seats”, claims Rotherham United manager Steve Evans.
Kearns, aged 21, was chased by Evans a couple of years ago but he couldn’t get him then.
“I’ve been tracking the lad since and he’s done well this season on loan at York City,” said Evans.
“A number of clubs were interested and if Peterborough hadn’t got a couple on loan from Manchester United then he would still have been there.
“He can operate on either side and, hopefully, he’ll open up defences.
“He likes to take people on and he gets people of their seats. I’ve seen him play and he’s been exciting. And he’s got a good delivery too. The final ball is good.”
Kearns arrives initially on loan, with a view to a permanent transfer at the end of the season.
He had a 12-game spell on loan at York from the beginning of October.
“I think having had that experience of playing in the division will help me,” said Kearns. “I had three months there and so I know what to expect. It’s not like going in cold. Rotherham are making a big push for promotion this time and I want to help them achieve that.”
Kearns could well get a debut this afternoon at home to Barnet at New York Stadium.
There will be a first look as well for the majority of Millers fans at young striker Adam Morgan.
Kayode Odejayi is also pushing fior a start up front.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Scott Shearer will be out for around three weeks after a minor elbow op.
Midfielder Mitchell Rose and striker Alec Denton, have gone on loan to Stamford.
