ROTHERHAM United, who have completed the signing of striker Kieran Agard, suffered their first defeat at New York Stadium, losing 1-0 to Scottish Cup holders Hearts.
Agard, once at Everton but with Yeovil last season, is the 11th signing of the summer and went on in the second half by which time Hearts were leading through a 48th minute goal from John Sutton, brother of ex-Blackburn striker Chris.
In a game of few opportunities, Alex Revell missed Rotherham’s best chance in the opening ten minutes and Kari Arnason was very close to equalising straight after the Hearts’ goal.
The Millers expect to be without right back Nicky Hunt for tomorrow’s game wikth Sheffield United. He suffered a slight hamstring injury in the first half and was replaced.
“Kieran Agard is a player I have tried to sign previously and I’m glad he is here,” said Rotherham manager Steve Evans. “He is quick and has an eye for goal and brings us something a little bit different.”
