The club asked World Cup Final referee Howard Webb, a club ambassador and lifelong fan, to officially make the announcement on the site of the 12,000 seater stadium today.
The stadium is being built in an area of Rotherham that is called New York.
“The historical link is there with the area and I think it is a marvellous name to go with what I think will be a wonderful stadium and one of which the people of Rotherham can be proud,” said club chairman Tony Stewart.
“We discussed various names which were put forward by our fans but when we thought about it, this has some many possibilities and it is certainly a name that stands out.”
