Ritchie Humphreys says he will happily play wherever he is needed for new club Chesterfield.
The versatile 35-year-old began his career at Sheffield Wednesday slightly further forward and is fondly remembered for an exquisite chip against Leicester City at Hillsborough.
He has spent the majority of his career operating left back, left midfield or central midfield and has been an ever-present throughout the Spireites’ pre-season, since joining the club after 12 years at Hartlepool.
He said: “I’m happy to play anywhere on the pitch and I always have done. I think the only two positions I’ve not played is right back and in goal.
“As long as I’m handed a shirt on a Saturday, I’ll play wherever the manager needs me to.”
Humphreys has been used mainly at left back by Chesterfield boss Paul Cook, as Nathan Smith continues his rehab, and will be in contention for the season opener at Bury.
