a TALE of two strikers this week has got fans of the Blades and the Owls posting feverishly on the star.co.uk, writes Richard Fidler.

James Beattie signing a deal until the end of the season got 18loyal89 purring: “Beattie is a quality striker. Players get older and slower physically, but their knowledge of the game can be a good tool to have. He will get on the end of balls to feet and headers and he will put some away. He won’t chase or tackle as much but to have a player like Beattie that can give you half an hour or half a game is okay by me. Banter apart all fans would like a striker in that mould as cover.”

DavefromChap wasn’t so sure: “Admittedly, Beattie was a good striker, two years off the boil is a long time though. I remember the “fox in the box” at Hillsboro, what a waste of time and money. Only time will tell, Don’t hold your breath.”

Two goals from Chris O’Grady set Wednesday on the way to a midweek 3-1 victory at Scunthorpe United. Lanzarote Owl said: “Pleased for Chris O’Grady, He has got his reward. I have said before that a striker who doesn’t score is a luxury we can ill afford so lets hope he can keep in this scoring vein. Good result for the lads, hopefully mid-season blip now over.”
