Reds dismiss Reading move for Jamal
SIMON Davey has dismissed speculation that there has been a new bid for for Jamal Campbell-Ryce from Reading, who failed in a move for the Jamaica international last season.
"We've not heard anything from Reading, they've not made a bid," Davey told the Star. "Jamal is an integral part of our team and he's come in and done great for us.
"When we signed him he was scoring three or four goals a season at Southend but now he's joint top-scorer at the club - and he's improved immensely as a player.
"He's added a lot of new things to his game and he's come in and improved the side."
Campbell-Ryce is currently on international duty at the Gold Cup in the United States, so will miss the Reds pre-season training and friendly matches.
Davey admitted: "If I'm being selfish I'd rather he didn't play in the Gold Cup, I'd rather Jamal was here with us in pre-season training and playing in the friendly matches we've got coming up.
"But at least I know that he's probably get a few games under his belt, which isn't a bad thing.
"He's going to miss all of the pre-season games, which isn't ideal, but we've got to accept that and welcome him back when the Gold Cup is finished."
