Laurent Koscielny ensured Arsenal of a place in the Champions League qualifiers with the only goal in a tight encounter at Newcastle.

The Gunners needed to equal or better the result of north London neighbours Tottenham to finish in the top four and they did that through Koscielny’s second half volley.

Spurs pushed them all the way as Gareth Bale’s goal in the 89th minute gave them a 1-0 victory over Sunderland.

Champions Manchester United surrendered a 5-2 lead in the last ten minutes at the Hawthorns as West Brom fought back to level 5-5 in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final match as manager of the Red Devils.

The retiring Jamie Carragher was part of Liverpool’s defence that kept a clean-sheet against QPR at Anfield as the home team won 1-0.

Michael Owen made his final appearance as well for Stoke City in a 1-1 draw at Southampton.

David Moyes last match in charge of Everton ended with a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea.

And Kevin Nolan scored a hat-trick as West Ham beat Reading 4-2.
