DESPITE the bad weather this week, it appears that the majority of local football matches will go ahead this weekend.
Sheffield and Hallamshire Football Association are keeping a close watch on the situation but hadn’t, as of yesterday evening, heard from Sheffield City Council about local authority pitches. James Hope-Gill, chief executive of Sheffield and Hallamshire FA, said: “We’ve no advice at present to give clubs until we liaise with the local authority. Everything is normal unless you hear otherwise. We’ll post updates on our website and email league officials and referees if there is a change to the situation. Referees are responsible for the safety of the players and if they don’t think the pitch is safe then they will postpone the match.”
