Owls on a roll as future looks brighter
BRIAN Laws today began the build-up for the first home game under Hillsborough's new order by issuing the rallying call: "Let's keep the ball rolling."
The Owls were pleased with a point at Ipswich - and could have picked up three - and now focus on Saturday's home clash with Charlton amid the optimism about the future inspired by new chairman Lee Strafford.
Manager Laws felt that Saturday's performance by the team reflected the generally buoyant new mood at Hillsborough.
"It's been a good week for us; now we've got an important game against Charlton. Let's keep the ball rolling," he said.
"There's a freshness about the place. There's an air of confidence. I think that was evident on the pitch.
"We are starting to look more positively to the future. Everything is starting to move.
"Already, in a short space of time, the club has changed incredibly, not through money, just through common sense."
Owls heading in right direction - MATCH REPORT AND SLIDESHOW
Laws is set to bring in a centre-midfield player on loan this week to boost his injury-hit squad, and should have strikers Marcus Tudgay and Leon Clarke back for Saturday.
The Owls boss sees the match as important because it is an opportunity to keep spirits rising and he wants to put even more distance between Wednesday and the teams at the lower end of the table.
Prices have been cut to 10 for adults and 5 for concessions, with tickets on sale on match day as well as beforehand.
Next week the club will also announce match-day price cuts for the rest of the season and offers to season-ticket-holders.
Laws says that his plan to bring in a second loan signing - left-side midfielder Michael Gray was signed from Wolves on Friday - brings help that the players deserve.
"I want to support the players as best we can by bringing in new blood. They have given everything," he said.
The transfer deals follow an eventful fortnight in which chief executive Kaven Walker has gone, Strafford and Nick Parker have become chairman and chief executive respectively, there has been progress towards a takeover, Howard Wilkinson has come on board as technical adviser and Strafford has strengthened links with fan groups.
Laws was pleased with Gray's debut in the 1-1 draw at Ipswich.
