STOCKSBRIDGE dropped into the bottom two of the Evo-Stik Premier Division following a 3-2 defeat at fellow strugglers Whitby Town.
Chris Bettney twice went close for Steels before Town took the lead when Shane Henry slotted home at the near post midway through the first half.
Nathan Mulligan doubled the advantage with a shot that squirmed through debutant goalkeeper Leigh Walker’s arms. But Danny South gave Steels a lifeline on the stroke of half time, rifling home from a Nicky Darker throw-in.
It was all square on 76 mins as Nathan Joynes headed in a cross. But it was Whitby that went on to snatch the points courtesy of a Mulligan 82nd minute penalty, awarded against Nick Swirad for holding.
Worksop Town put one over their former boss Martin McIntosh with a 3-0 win at Buxton. The Tigers edged in front on 45 minutes when Steve Towers tucked away a rebound, They Worksop doubled their lead on 65 minutes; Craig King slotting home a loose ball after Leon Mettam’s free-kick had struck the post. Lee Beeson’s penalty completed the scoring.
