NORWEGIAN Erik Tonne enhanced his prospects of receiving a senior call-up by finding the back of the net in Sheffield United’s 1-0 victory at Matlock Town tonight, writes Dom Howson.
Tonne, who spent the latter stages of last season on loan at York City, registered in the 54th minute as the Blades preserved their unbeaten run in pre-season.
Joe Ironside and Danny Philliskirk, who both bagged a brace either side of half-time as United ran out comfortable winners against Hallam FC last week, featured in a youthful side named by coach Chris Morgan along with back-up goalkeeper George Long and midfielder David McAllister.
In the early skirmishes, Callum McFadzean fired straight at the Matlock goalkeeper but was later taken off after picking up a slight knock, with Erik Tonne switching to the left flank.
George Long pulled off a couple of fine saves either side of half-time before Tonne registered.
Philliskirk went close to doubling the lead but he was denied by the Matlock shot-stopper.
United: Long, Hodder, Williams, Harriott, Salt, Foster, Tonne, McAllister, Ironside, Philliskirk, McFadzean.
