IN the world’s oldest derby, Sheffield FC were pushed all the way by neighbours Hallam in the Sheffield Senior Cup First Round before edging through 3-2 with a late goal at Dronfield.
Club took the lead in the first minute through Shaq McKenzie after a good run through the middle. The Evo-Stik League One side were pegged back by their NCEL Division One opponents on 23 minutes when Ben Kistell’s speculative long range effort found the net.
Hallam almost went in front just before the break when Scott Whittington saw his effort pushed onto the bar by Liam Flynn. Sheffield regained the lead on 64 minutes through Andy Gascoigne’s header but back came Hallam once more with Liam Morris turning to fire home inside the box.
Sheffield grabbed the winner with two minutes left. McKenzie crossing for sub Aaron Martin to head home.
Parkgate eased past Doncaster & District Senior League Mexborough Town 4-1.
A Jacob Walters-Lang 33rd minute effort was all that separated the teams at the interval. But Ryan Johnson doubled the advantage with Jamie Smith making it 3-0. Mexborough pulled one back through Jamie Fletcher but Nathan Forbes-Swindells restored Steelmen’s three goal cushion.
