County Senior League Oughtibridge pulled off another cup shock after coming from behind to beat Northern Counties Premier Division Parkgate 2-1 at Green Lane in the Senior Cup quarter finals last night.
Oughtibridge, who twice came from a goal down to put out Hallam 3-2 at Sandygate in the first round, trailed to a 46th minute Ashley Linacre strike.
Parkgate’s lead was short-lived as Daniel Robinson levelled eight minutes later before Ben Cook pounced to send the underdogs through to the semis.
They are joined by Worksop Parramore after they beat NCE Premier Division rivals Staveley Miners Welfare 2-1 at Sandy Lane in the other evening’s quarterfinal tie. Lee Whittington gave the home side a 17th minute lead. Lee Hill doubled the advantageafter the keeper had saved Whittington’s effort.
Staveley made it a tense finale when Josh Scully pulled one back with 12 minutes left.
Worksop Town climbed up to third in the Evo-Stik Premier Division after extending their unbeaten league run to eight games with a 3-1 win at Kings Lynn Town. Leon Mettam gave the Tigers a seventh minute lead with Adam Quinn making it 2-0 on 21 minutes. Mettam scored his second and Worksop’s third 10 minutes after the break with the Linnets pulling one back 18 minutes from time.
In the NCE, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and AFC Emley tied 1-1 draw at Park Road, while Dronfield Town went down to a 4-2 defeat at Teversal.
This evening sees the two remaining Sheffield Senior Cup quarterfinals. Cup favourites Frickley Athletic, the holders and only Evo-Stik League team left in the competition travel to Handsworth FC of the County Senior League. Handsworth will be looking to cause a second cup upset after dumping NCE Division One side Rossington Main out of the competition 4-1 in the previous round. The other tie sees Athersley Recreation v Houghton Main.
