Sheffield FC booked their place in the second round the of Evo-Stik Doodson Sport League Cup last night, beating Ossett Town 5-3 in an entertaining affair at Dronfield.
Sheffield went in front on six minutes after Richard Stirrup finished off an excellent five man passing move.
Ossett were back on level term 10 minutes later through Richard Patterson.
The home side were back in front however on 32 minutes when James Gregory outpaced his marker to rifle home from a James Knowles through ball. Six minutes later and Club had a two goal cushion with Gregory tapping in his second.
Town pulled one back through Tom Smith on 58 minutes. But Joel Purkiss rattled in a fourth 12 minutes later to give Club some breathing space. Ossett wasted the opportunity to pull one back blasting over from the penalty spot after handball before Purkiss put the tie beyond the visitor’s with the fifth on 77 minutes with a good run and finish. And although Ossett reduced the arrears after Joe Green appeared to be bundled over the line by Smith, it came too late to affect the outcome.
Stocksbridge Park Steels went out 2-1 at Brighouse Town despite taking a first half lead.
Substitute Harrison Biggins; on for the injured Lee Garside put Steels in front on 24 minutes with a fine 20-yard effort that went through the keepers hands.
But a contentious penalty midway through the second half and a late header saw Brighouse turn the tie on its head.
Frickley Athletic went through 2-0 at Blyth Spartans
In the NCE League, Hallam picked up their first home league win of the campaign thumping Grimsby Borough 7-2 to climb back off the bottom of the NCEL Division One.
Parkgate came from a goal down to beat Pickering Town 2-1 with Daniel Abdula scoring both goals.
