It has been a good week for Rossington Main.
They came from two goals down at rejuvenated Grimsby Borough to draw 2-2 in midweek.
Main then ended their 14-match win-less league run by beating Eccleshill United 1-0 at Oxford Street last weekend.
Main looked to be on the ropes at Grimsby when Jamie Coulson scored twice in five minutes midway through the first half to put the home side in control.
But Shaun Pendleton pulled one back early in the second half, knocking in the rebound from a penalty that had seen the hosts reduced to ten men.
With 20 minutes remaining Rossington player manager Lee Holmes then popped up with the equaliser to give Main a hard earned point.
Eccleshill had gone into Saturday’s game having won the last three on the spin so it was perhaps no surprise that the visitors applied the early pressure.
However, it was not all one-way traffic and Matt Ellis headed just wide at the near post from a Matt Bradley cross.
A lively start to the second half saw Liam Cooper and Jordan Woodhall getting in good blocks as Eccleshill pressed, while at the other end Jason Stokes’ lovely through ball picked out Holmes who was unlucky to see his shot smack against the visitors’ upright.
There was a let-off for Rossington on 61 minutes when Eccleshill’s Liam Charles sliced a shot over the bar from a couple of yards out.
It was to prove a crucial miss as just four minutes later Main went in front with what proved to be the winner, Holmes prodding home his eighth goal of the season from Stokes’ driven cross.
Eccleshill pressed hard for an equaliser in the latter stages and might have snatched a point inside the last 10 minutes but Richard Watson pulled out a top drawer save to keeper out a header.
Rossington travel to Knaresborough Town this weekend.
They will be chasing a first away league win and double of the season after goals from Holmes, Marcel Chipamaunga and Callum Wiffen saw Rossington run out 3-1 winners at Oxford Street in August. Knaresborough have just one point to show from the last four outings.
