Stocksbridge Park Steels will want more Sunday afternoon games after winning 2-1 at Northwich Victoria in the FA Trophy first qualifying round.
They became the first team to beat Northwich on home soil this season.
Scott Ruthven gave Steels a 34th minute lead after Joe Lumsden’s effort had come back off the crossbar. Lumsden then marked his Stocksbridge debut by heading in the crucial second on the stroke of half-time from a Rory Coleman free-kick.
Northwich pulled one backwhen Michael Clarke rifled home from close range. But Steels hung on despite having Coleman red carded following an off-the -ball incident.

Sheffield almost snatched the lead on 42 minutes when Anton Foster’s sharp turn and shot forced the keeper into a fingertip save.
With a replay at the Coach & Horses looking likely Marine snatched the lead on 82 minutes. Sheffield failed to deal with a long throw into the box and when it fell to Andy Owens he hit a first time low effort past Dunn to put the Merseyside outfit into today’s second round draw.
Frickley Athletic went out 2-1 at Buxton despite playing against 10 men for 50 minutes. The home side took a fortunate 10th minute lead when John Cyrus saw his clearance ricochet off Bradley Barraclough with the Buxton man knowing little about it.
Frickley equalised as Zeph Thomas teed up Luke Hinsley to steer home f.
In the 39th minute. Brad Grayson burst clear to round the keeper in the area but as he was about to roll the ball into an empty net was bundled over by Jamie Green, who was immediately sent off. However, Thomas saw his spot kick superbly saved by the Bucks keeper Phil Barnes.
Frickley couldn’t make the numerical advantage count and on 59 minutes the home side snatched the winner when sub Alex Wiles drilled home a low shot just inside the post.
