Local Football: Parkgate secure third straight win

Things are starting to look up for Parkgate and manager Steve Adams after the Steelmen made it three league wins on the spin with an impressive 3-1 home victory over high-riding Albion Sports.

Parkgate took the lead six minutes before the break when Lee Whittington set up George Morley to score with a low drive from the edge of the box.

Albion levelled inside the first minute of the second half through Adam Jones.

Parkgate regained the lead courtesy of a Simon Mirfin 69th minute strike with Adam Houghton hitting the clinching third 12 minutes from time.

Hallam can feel optimistic for the second half of the campaign following a 2-0 victory at Grimsby Borough that saw Chris Sellars side make it seven points from the last nine raising hopes they have finally turned the corner.

Hallam made the breakthrough courtesy of a 58th minute own goal with Sam Eckardt adding to his treble the previous week by rifling in the second a minute later.

Worksop Parramore kept their promotion dreams alive with a crucial 2-0 victory at Bridlington Town. Lee Whittington broke the deadlock two minutes before the break with Nathan Forbes-Swindells extending the lead on 47 minutes with a stunning 35-yard effort into the top corner.

Retford United’s promotion hopes took a knock with a 1-0 home defeat to Long Eaton United while Maltby Main lost 2-0 at Barton Town OB.

Armthorpe Welfare returned to winning ways beating Lincoln MR 4-1. Richard Smith, James Walker (pen) and a Kieran Taylor solo put Welfare three up just past the half hour. Moorlands made it 3-1 in 43 minutes but Daniel Taylor’s late fourth sealed the win.

Athersley Rec won 4-0 at Staveley MW, all the goals in the first half and Kieron Scargill, Craig Fletcher and Lee Bennett scoring inside the opening 18 minutes. Scargill’s second came just before the interval.

Worsbrough Bridge were held 1-1 draw by Shirebrook Town at Park Road. Scott Turner’s 18-yarder on 22 minutes levelled it up and the Briggers might have but Lee Garside missed a 30th minute penalty.

Dinnington Town slumped 7-1 at home to promotion chasers Bottesford Town where Ivan Ya Ya Myala netted Town’s goal. Dronfield Town went down 3-1 at home to second-placed Cleethorpes Town. John Doran hit a late consolation.

AFC Emley, eight without a win, beat Hemsworth MW 1-0 thanks to Alex Hallam’s 55th minute effort. Division One leaders Shaw Lane Aquaforce saw their lead narrowed to goal difference after a 3-1 reversal at Selby Town. Mark Whitehouse scored.

Rossington Main beat Appleby Frodingham 2-0 through Tom Niner on 50 minutes, his first for the club, and Paddy Mullen 10 minutes from time.
