Worksop went out of the FA Trophy at the second round stage last night beaten 3-1 by Conference Premier’s Newport County at Sandy Lane.
The Tigers had the better of the first half and were unlucky not to have gone ahead. Mark Hudson’s fine 20-yard drive was saved by County keeper Glyn Thompson.
Matt Young had an effort scrambled off the line, while Ashley Burbeary was only a whisker away with a curling free-kick from just outside the area.
However, it was the visitors the broke the deadlock when a cross was not cleared and Elliott Buchanan fired home on 58 minutes.
Worksop levelled on 71 minutes, Massiah McDonald flicking the ball on for Craig King to fire home. Jamie Jackson was denied a penalty when the striker looked to be pulled back while in on goal.
But Newport grabbed the lead on 86 minutes when substitute Jake Harris’s deflected shot looped over keeper Jon Worsnop. Harris’s second sealed the tie in last minute.
