Hallam hit four goals in nine minutes in great FA Vase fightback

It was a day of comebacks in the FA Vase as Hallam, Handsworth Parramore and Armthorpe Welfare all overturned half-time deficits to put themselves into today’s Third Round Qualifying draw.

A disastrous first half saw Hallam trail 3-0 at home to Central Midlands side Harworth Colliery Institute, who had Greg Archer, Tommy Durrant and Leigh Warriner on target.

But Ryan Hindley’s men stormed back after the interval scoring four goals in a devastating nine minute spell that included a Michael Blythen hat-trick including a penalty. Max Pembertongot the other to give Hallam their first victory in the competition since beating Penrith 6-2 in 2010.

Handsworth Parramore were 2-0 down at the interval to North West Counties Division One side Cheadle Town before hitting back to win 3-2.

Two Kieran Wells headers and a Steve Warne’s good finish into the bottom corner three minutes from time gave Handsworththeir eighth win in an unbeaten nine match run.

Two goals in a three minute spell midway through the first half appeared to have put NWC’s side Ashton Town in command at Armthorpe Welfare. The home side though had other ideas as Joe Lumden tapped in Stuart Preston’s low cross to pull one back on 68 minutes. It took less than a minutes for Armthorpe to come up with an equaliser when Tom McLaughlin nodded in at the far post. The comeback was complete on 71 minutes when from another cross Preston slammed home from six yards. The gloss was taken off the victory when Lumsden was sent off moments later for retaliation before the visitors too were Dronfield Town had an excellent afternoon beating NWC’s Premier Division high-fliers Bootle FC 2-1 at home. Joe Butler with only his second goal of the season giving Town a 67th minute lead. Danny Hoyland then chose the perfect time to score his first of the season hitting what proved to be the winner three minutes from time as the visitors pulled one back in time added on.

Maltby Main beat Bottesford Town 2-0 at Muglet Lane to end a run of four defeats, while goals from Ryan Blackburn and Danny Joynes 16 minutes from time saw Athersley Rec triumph 2-0 at Premier Division rivals Retford United.

Rossington Main went out 3-1 at Northwich Manchester Villa despite Matt Bradley giving Lee Holmes side a 11th minute lead.

AFC Emley crashed out 4-3 at home to Congleton Town. Michael Tunnacliffe and a Ashley Flynn double had seen Emley go 3-1 up after trialing at the break only to concede three in the last 15 minutes.

In the Premier Division, Its just one win in seven now for Parkgate after they were held 1-1 against Nostell MW at Roundwood. Alex Lill gave the Steelmen a 25th minute lead but Lee Tuner levelled.

Courtney Hastings and Kieran Watson both scored twice as Staveley MW made it three league wins from four beating Albion Sports 4-1 at home.
