Stocksbridge have almost certainly ensured Premier Division safety after a 5-3 home win over relegation rivals Kendal Town saw Darren Schofield’s side claim a fourth win in five.

With four games remaining Steels are nine-points clear of Kendal in the second relegation slot and with a superior goal-difference; furthermore the victory lifted them to 19th of 22 teams and above Grantham Town with two games in hand.

Steels scored on 17 minutes; Alex Callery curled in a fine effort from just inside the angle of the area. However, Danny Mitchley heading the visitors back on level terms. Then the Cumbrians snatched the lead as Adam Freeland knocked in the rebound after Ben Scott had spilled a free-kick.

Stocksbridge were on the front foot in the second half. Danny South headed in a Davis cross for the equaliser. Nathan Joynes then thumped in after James Knowles had done well to knock the ball into the strikers’ path. Nick Swirad made it 4-2 with a header from Matt Hamshaw’s free-kick.

When Mitchley bundled the ball home from a low cross three minutes from time it looked like Steels were in for an anxious finale. But in stoppage time substitute Alec Denton raced onto long ball going past a defender then rounding the keeper to seal the win.

Sheffield FC were beaten for the first time in nine games; 5-1 at Division One South play-off hopefuls Chasetown. Club’s James Gregory scored a consolation.

Worksop Town were beaten 1-0 at Premier Division promotion chaser FC United of Manchester. Matt Wolfenden scored the goal on 68 minutes. But Worksop were unlucky to have come away with a point after Tom Denton saw his late header hacked off the line.

A late penalty saw Frickley Athletic beaten 3-2 at Nantwich Town after twice coming from behind. Jamie Wootton’s fifth minute header cancelled out Town’s opener a minute earlier. Then after the home side had restored their lead before the break, Jake Picton’s 84th minute lob looked to have earned a point on for Nantwich to win from the spot.

Matlock Town went down 3-0 at play-off chasing Witton Albion while Buxton boosted their hopes of snatching a play-off spot after goals from Matt Thornhill and Kieran Lugsdan gave them a 2-0 win over Rushall Olympic at the Silverlands
