MANAGERLESS Stocksbridge Park Steels and Sheffield FC enjoyed away victories in the Sheffield Senior Cup Second Round with Steels winning 5-2 at AFC Emley while Club overcame Athersley Recreation 3-1.
Stocksbridge went behind in the first minute when goalkeeper Ben Scott slipped on the greasy surface going for a Brett Lovell back pass allowing Emley top scorer David Heagney a simple chance. Steels hit back when Jack Muldoon raced on to Andy Ring’s long ball to score with a chip over the keeper.
Richard Stirrup finished off an excellent passing move midway through the half with an 10-yard strike across the keeper to put the visitors ahead.
Steels took a firm grip with the third two minutes before the break. Anthony Lloyd’s throw was taken down by Muldoon before going past his marker to steer a shot wide of the keeper. Steels increased their lead in the second half, Muldoon crossing for Ring to slot home. Dean Wharam pulled one back on the hour but substitute Chris Adam converted a Michael Blythen pass from six-yards inside the last 15 minutes to put the result beyond doubt.
Sheffield also went behind midway through the first half at Athersley when Dan Whatsize was beaten by a low shot. But Club level on 35 minutes, Andy Gascoigne making a surging run from midfielder before sending David Graham away to score.
After the break, from a Jack Barnett free-kick the ball went through several players for Gascoigne to hook the ball home to put Club 2-1 up. Mark Shaw’s men wrapped up the tie with the third from Ashley Longstaff.
Elsewhere, Frickley Athletic beat Dinnington Town 3-1 with goals from Stewart Ludlam and a Jack Watts brace after Curtis Gregory had equalised, while Rossington Main went out 5-0 at Hemsworth MW. In the NCEL, Parkgate were held 1-1 by Scarborough Athletic.
