A DONCASTER ROVERS XI were trounced 4-0 by Conference North side Gainsborough Trinity this evening.
Rovers went behind after just nine minutes when 29-year-old former Mansfield Town loan striker Richard Paquette nodded home for the Lincolnshire side.
It looked like a long night was ahead when another ex Mansfield Paul Connor finished from short range after Rovers were undone on the right flank.
A Blake free kick wasn’t far from target and Hawley tested the home keeper, but the non-league side were good value for their 2-0 half time lead over the League One team, at the 4,000 capacity Northolme ground.
Paquette hit the bar after defensive mix up as Trinity sought to increase their lead.
As is the norm for pre-season friendlies, the flow of the game was interrupted by substitutions.
But it didn’t stop Trinity going 3-0 up Clarke despatching from inside the penalty area, following more damaging work down Rovers’ flank.
The same player scored a cracker for 4-0, from around 25 yards, to make the Rovers’ mood even more bleak.
Not a night to live long in the memory for Rovers visitors.
