Natasha Dowie proved to be a thorn in Doncaster Rovers Belles side once more as she guided Liverpool Ladies to a 2-0 victory last night.

The former Everton striker, who has now scored five against Belles this season including a hat trick the last time they met, was on target for the FAWSL leaders alongside fellow forward Louise Fors.

But they had a battle on their hands to secure the points in front of a crowd of 297 at the Halton Stadium.

A spirited Doncaster outfit made life difficult for the usual free-scoring Merseysiders who managed to claim their second goal with minutes to spare.

The lead came in the 11th minute when Nicole Rolser drove into the area and squared it to the league’s top scorer Dowie who tapped in from close range.

Belles skipper Leandra Little had a glorious chance to equalise, however, fired an effort straight down the throat of keeper Rachel Laws.

Jess Sigsworth was also giving the Liverpool backline something to think about with her surging runs as Rhiannon Roberts also saw a volley nestle into the arms of Laws.

The visitors’ pressed high up the pitch giving Liverpool no chance to relax on their slender lead.

Amanda Da Costa later tried her luck, but her tame effort failed to trouble Nicky Davies in the Doncaster goal.

The final nervy moments then offered Liverpool relief as Fors followed up a rebound and bundled the ball home with four minutes to go for 2-0.
