Dawson shows the way as Parkgate land home win at last

Parkgate claimed their first home league win of the season at the 10th attempt with a 3-1 victory over Basford United and in doing so ended a run of five league defeats.

Andy Dawson gave the Steelmen a 12th minute lead with a speculative 40-yard effort. They went close again when Ashley Linacre’s lob was hooked clear in front of goal before George Morley forced a fine save from the keeper.

Parkgate made it 2-0 four minutes before the break with Morley making a fine burst from midfield to score with a cool finish.

The Steelmenhit the third five minutes into the second half as Ben Langford powerfully headed home a Simon Mirfin cross before Fabien Smith hit a late consolation.

Hallam picked up a good 1-1 draw at Teversal. Triston Burrell gave the home side the lead inside the first minute of the season half but that was cancelled out 10 minutes later as Joe Lightfield levelled from the penalty spot.

Sam Smith scored the only goal of the game just past the hour to earn Worksop Parrmaore a crucial 1-0 away victory at Long Eaton United, while Brain Cusworth scored a last-gasp equaliser as Maltby Main snatched a 3-3 draw at Glasshoughton Welfare.

The Miners led through Shaun Mitchell’s looping header but the home side hit back to lead 2-1 with 12 minutes remaining. Rob Branagan levelled things up on 87 minutes after rounding the keeper. The home side looked to have won it as they edged in from in the third minute of time added on but Cusworth had other ideas.

Danny Mansaram’s ninth minute own-goal gave Tadcaster Albion an unjust 1-0 win at Armthorpe Welfare as the hosts dominated.

Staveley MW suffered a first defeat in eight, losing 4-2 at home to Garforth Town despite goals by Reece Littlejohn and Jamie Smith.

Retford United thrashed struggling Nostell MW 6-1 but Athersley Recreation went down 3-2 at Bridlington Town where Craig Fletcher’s late brace gave the hosts a scare after they had led 3-0.

Dinnington Town were stung by a 90th minute goal in a 3-2 home defeat against Pontefract Collieries after twice coming from behind with goals from Lanzel Reid and Greg Ramsden.

Worsbrough Bridge Athletic suffered a rare home defeat, beaten 3-2 by Knaresborough Town. Liam McFadyen and Chris White 13 minutes from time pulled the Briggers level only for the visitors to grab a late winner.

Shaw Lane Aquaforce remain top of Division One after a 2-0 home win over promotion rival Eccleshill United with goals from Chris Coy and Danny Barlow. Dronfield Town were beaten 1-0 at home by Shirebrook Town, while Rossington Main went down 3-1 at Clipstone. AFC Emley drew 3-3 draw with promotion chasing Bottesford Town with goals from Steve Kenworthy and an Antony Brown brace.
