Sheffield FC picked up their first away win in four with an excellent 4-2 win at Market Drayton Town as Club climbed to fourth in Division One South.

Matt Roney scored after two minutes from a Coner Higginson pass. The hosts hit back with two goals in two minutes. But Roney’s cross was headed home by Higginson to restore parity. Three minutes into the second half Higginson latched on to Steve Woolley’s through ball to put Sheffield back in front.

Sheffield got the fourth they had been threatening in the 90th minute when Woolley steered the ball home.

In the Premier Division, Stocksbridge slumped to a fifth defeat in six games, beaten 3-2 by Northwich Victoria to leave Gary Marrow’s side third from bottom. Steels had fought back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 only to concede to sloppy goals.

After their poor start, Stocksbridge pulled a goal back, Mark Ward blasting home a penalty after a trip on Chris Adam. It was all square two minutes into the second half when Dominic Riordan hit a 25-yarder into the roof of the net.

Steels had turned the game on its head taking a 76th-minute lead with Ward coolly converting his second penalty. However, two minutes later substitute Steve Abbott was left unmarked to head home a left-wing cross from close range to make it 3-3. Steels hadn’t learned their lesson when another cross from the left saw Abbott guide in a downward header at the far post to leave boss Marrow fuming: “We’ll never keep a clean sheet with defending like that.”

Worksop Town remain second from bottom after slipping to a sixth defeat in nine outings following a 3-0 home reversal against Chester. The Tigers dominated the first 45 minutes and should have been ahead at the interval with Dennis Sherriff heading narrowly wide when well placed, while new signing Mike Whitwell steered his shot wide of the post when clear on goal.

Chester snatched the lead two minutes after the interval in fortuitous circumstance. George Horan’s flicked header was pushed away by keeper Jon Worsnop only to hit defender Chris Wood in the back and rebound into the goal. The visitors doubled the advantage on 83 minutes when Worsnop conceded a penalty that was converted by Matt McGinn before Wesley Baines sealed the points with a rocket of shot in time added on.
