Gary Marrow’s side had already all but secured their safety following their a run which had seen them pull 10 points clear of the drop zone, but they made sure with a stunning victory. Damien Allen and Luke Denson gave Bay a two-goal cushion.

But Brett Lovell rattled the crossbar with a header and Stocksbridge were back in the game on 25 minutes when Mark Ward spotted the keeper off his line and chipped the ball over his head from 30 yards. Steels were level on 64 minutes, Kevin Davies crossing low for substitute Richard Stirrup to steer the ball home.

Jack Muldoon nudged Stocksbridge in front when from a long ball over the Bay defence the striker bustled his way past his marker to hit home a scorcher. With eight minutes left Muldoon hit Steels fourth. Allen pulled one back from a free-kick with five minutes left but Marrow’s men hung on.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday reserves take on Port Vale res at Bracken Moor tomorrow (7pm).

Frickley Athletic boosted their hopes of avoiding the drop with a 1-0 win at Northwich Victoria.

And although they remain in the bottom four it leaves them just one point from safety with a game in hand. Ashley Burbeary hit the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.

Worksop Town rocked play-off hopefuls Buxton with a 3-0 victory at Cannon Park - their best performance in weeks. Luke Shiels headed the Tigers into a second minute lead after Buxton keeper Scott Hartley had missed a Chris Bettney cross. Mikel Suarez extended the advantage heading in at the far post from a Ben Tomlinson cross. Suarez added a third, converting a Bettney corner.

Matlock Town were denied a first league win in nine after Hucknall Town came from behind to earn a share of the spoils with a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Watnall Road. Tyeisse Nightingale gave the hosts 20th minute lead from the penalty spot. The games second penalty converted by Ross Hannah saw the Gladiators back level. Hannah converted another penalty after the interval to give Matlock the lead, only for Hucknall to hit back through Matthieu Isamene.

Retford United were beaten 2-0 at Bradford Park Avenue.

Sheffield FC came from a goal down at Dronfield to extend their unbeaten league run to seven games with a 1-1 draw against Loughborough Dynamo.

Loughborough grabbed the lead against the run of play, Luke Edwards swerving 20-yard shot. Andy Gascoigne saw his long range volley saved, while Chris Adam had an effort palmed away as Sheffield went in search of the equaliser. However, on 68 minutes Steve Woolley cut inside to unleash a superb strike into the top corner.
