STOCKSBRIDGE Park Steels manager Chris Willcock believes an award his chairman Allan Bethel won for outstanding contribution to community football will give the whole club a boost ahead of the new season.

Bethel was honoured by Sheffield and Hallamshire FA and Willcock said: “It was fully justified, his dedication working with children of all ages reflects well on this wonderful club.” Pre-season friendlies have provided a stiff test for Steels recently.

“We’ve played Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday so far, which was an experience our lads will need - they have an average age of 23 - when we play clubs like FC United of Manchester who command big crowds,” said Willcock.
