Sheffield FC made it six without defeat after withstanding a second half comeback at Newcastle Town last night to win 5-3.
Club got off to a flying start with a goal inside the first seven minutes. James Gregory was brought down as he ran into the area leaving Andy Gascoigne to confidently put away the resulting penalty.
Newcastle hit back to level with a penalty of their own five minutes later. But Club regained the lead just before the half hour mark, Steve Woolley thumping the ball home. ZepthThomas, with a beauty from long range, extended the lead before swivelling to hit his second and Sheffield’s fourth five minutes before the break.
However, Ian Whitehorne’s men were rocked by two goals inside the first five minutes of the second half that put the host right back in the game. But with four minutes remaining Club sealed a deserved three-points when Mark Fereday chased down the ball to find fellow sub Ben Algar to score.
Frickley had to settle for a point, held at home 2-2 by Kings Lynn Town despite Gavin Allott twice putting the hosts in front.
In the NCEL, Dinnington picked up an excellent point drawing 1-1 at Clipstone, while Retford United won 6-1 at Glasshoughton Welfare. But Armthorpe Welfare slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against Garforth Town.
