SHEFFIELD FC made it two wins in the space of four days with a 3-0 victory over Kidsgrove Athletic at Dronfield last night to close the gap on Evo-Stik Division One leaders Ilkeston to two points.
There was an early scare for Club when the visitors hit the crossbar but Sheffield soon got into their stride with Matt Roney firing in a long range effort that wasn’t far wide.
But on 25 minutes Club nudged in front with a goal from one of the debutant Warren Burrell, who smashed home at the second attempt after his first effort from a corner had been blocked.
Sheffield doubled the lead just past the half hour mark. Another debutant, James Knowles, steering home a low shot from the edge of the box after Roney had pulled the ball back from the bye-line.
Club wrapped up the points with the third midway through the second half, Roney doing well to turn past his marker before hitting a low drive in off the far post.
In the League Cup Stocksbridge Park Steels went down 4-3 on penalties at Bracken Moor against Bradford Park Avenue. Bradford took the lead through Billy Law on 62 minutes lead but Steels hit back to level four minutes later when Jack Muldoon headed in a Mark Ward cross
Worksop Town needed extra-time time to beat Division One Belper Town. Sam Duncum gave the Tigers a third minute lead but Jordan Turner levelled just before the half hour mark. Worksop had Mark Roberts sent-off after the break but the ten-men went through with goals from Owain Warlow (pen) and Jamie Jackson.
Frickley Athletic put out Garfoth Town 4-2.
Staveley moved to fourth in the Baris NCEL Premier Division after goals from Chris Coy and Joe Thornton gave them a 2-1 win at promotion rivals Scarborough Athletic.
