WYCOMBE Wanderers sacked manager Gary Waddock following their 1-0 defeat to fellow strugglers AFC Wimbledon, who themselves parted company with manager Terry Brown last week.

It has been a disappointing start to the season for the Chairboys and the result left them 21st in the table, with just four points from seven matches.

Waddock led the club to promotion from the basement division in the 2010-11 campaign but they were relegated at the end of last season.

The club confirmed that a further statement would be made today.

Former Sheffield Wednesday managers Brian Laws and Gary Megson are believed to be in the frame to succeed Waddock.

Meanwhile, Deon Burton’s 11th minute header sent League Two leaders Gillingham on the way to their seventh win out of eight this season with an impressive 2-0 success at Port Vale.
