He’s learnt his trade on the muddy park fields of South Yorkshire - and now Sheffield referee Tom Bramall is preparing for life in the Football League.

For the local whistler, who began his career in the Blades Superdraw League and refereed last season’s Macron Cup final at Bramall Lane, has been promoted and will run the line in the Football League next season.

Keith Firminger, chairman of the Blades Superdraw League, said: “It was obvious from that first game that he was going to be an exceptional official.

“I got to know him and his family quite well, and he’s also a really good lad. He isn’t the sort to let the promotion go to his head.”

Tom, from Killamarsh, isn’t the only Bramall to have taken up refereeing, either - his younger brother, Josh, is also a keen official.
