STOCKSBRIDGE Park Steels lost out 3-2 to a late goal in the derby against neighbours Worksop Town in the Evo-Stik Premier Division last night, while in Division One South Sheffield FC beat next to bottom Spalding United 2-1 at Dronfield.
Steels found themselves a goal down after just five minutes. Ryan Mallon's left wing corner was met by Ben Tomlinson at the near post, whose header bounced down off the underside of crossbar before crossing the line. Former Worksop player Alex Callery forced Jon Kennedy into an excellent save, diving to his right to push out the wingers 22 yard drive. Steels hit back to level just past the half hour mark when ex-Worksop man Colin Marrison touched home a corner to the near post.
Stocksbridge took the lead on 51 minutes with a superb 25-yard free-kick. Parity was restored when Jackson beat Scott to a ball into the box to head home. And Worksop grabbed the winner with a quickly taken Tomlinson free-kick from 20-yards out. Steels substitute Ben Leonard was given a straight red in the aftermath of the goal for comments made to the referee. Ward wasted a chance to rescue a point for Stocksbridge in the final minute.
Callum Harrison got on the end of a free-kick to head Sheffield into a 25th minute lead against strugglers Spalding. Club doubled their advantage on 57 minutes, substitute Nathan Foster crossing for Matt Roney to smash the ball home from close range. The visitors then had their keeper sent off after a tangle with Roney, but the ten-men made it a close finish when Jonathan Jones pulled one backe. In the NCEL Premier Division, Parkgate lost 2-1 at Tadcaster Albion. Hallam were beaten 3-1 at Armthorpe.
