History makers stun city rivals

Sheffield FC staged one of the best fightbacks in the history of the Sheffield Senior Cup after coming from 3-0 down in the first 20 minutes then 4-1 down, scoring three times in the last 12 minutes and dumping Stocksbridge Park Steels out of the competition 5-4 in an astonishing quarter-final at Bracken Moor.

Stocksbridge took the lead in the first minute when Lee Cooksey tripped Jamie Vardy after just 25 seconds and Andy Ring slotted home the penalty. Richard Tracey tapped in a Vardy cross and Steels added a third on 20 minutes when Vardy fired past Leigh Walker and at that stage there seemed only one winner.

On the stroke of half time Curtis Woodhouse pulled one back with his first goal for Club firing low through a crowded box.

Vardy headed against the post before a controversial decision on 55 minutes by referee England had both sides fuming. Steels defender Matt Daley handled outside the area but with Sheffield in possession advantage was played. However, the move broke down and Stocksbridge went on the attack where Andy Ring put in Vardy to give the home side a 4-1 lead.

Angry Sheffield claimed they should have been given a free-kick. After calm was restored England sent Daley off.

Eight minutes later Club pulled one back with a driven low shot from Jordan Eagers inside David Ratcliffe's near post. Ratcliffe made a great save from Steve Woolley on 80 minutes but Greg Wright thumped home the bound for 4-3. It was all square five minutes later substitute Ashley Longstaff made it 4-4. Sheffield completed the comeback on 88 minutes with a terrific strike. Longstaff taking the ball down on his chest before sending an unstoppable volley from the edge of the box beyond Ratcliffe.

*Hallam beat AFC Emley 2-1 at Sandygate. Danny Patterson fired the Blues into a 22nd minute lead before former Hallam man Craig Marsh levelled two minutes before the break when his a deflected shot looped over the keeper.

Hallam got the winner on 66 minutes when James Baker headed home a Wes Pierce cross. Staveley MW beat Dinnington Town 2-0 with second half goals from Ryan Damms and Chris Coy, while Nostell MW beat County Senior side Mexborough Main Street 4-1.
