Handsworth sparkle at home again
BOTH Handsworth and Staveley Miners Welfare recorded excellent 2-0 victories in Division One over Barton Town Old Boys and Louth Town respectively.
Handsworth director Sean Bean had been hoping to make the trip over from Northern Ireland where he is on location filming, but a midnight film-shoot ruled it out.
But the film star would have been delighted to hear that Handsworth made it three wins from three at home without conceding.
Town's Lee Shillito turned the ball into his own net when attempting to clear a cross to give Handsworth a 29th minute lead but they had to wait until the 76th minute to seal the points when Adam Fretwell tapped home after neat play from Ryan Johnson.
Staveley climbed to fifth and within three points of the leaders following their victory at new-boys Louth Town. Ryan Damms put the Miners in front on 64 minutes from the penalty spot with Chris Coy wrapping up the points in stoppage time with his third of the season.
Elsewhere in Division One, Rossington Main slipped to a fourth consecutive home defeat in all competitions when a Danny Forrest first half hat-trick secured a 3-0 victory for visitors Yorkshire Amateur, while a Danny Keen strike two minutes before the break was enough to send Askern Villa down to a 1-0 defeat at Leeds Carnegie.
In the Premier Division, Armthorpe Welfare have now gone four games without a win after being held to a 2-2 draw with Farsley AFC.
