Sheffield eased into the second round of the Doodson Sport League Cup beating Division One North side Wakefield 4-2 at Dronfield.
The tie marked the 50th consecutive appearance for goalkeeper Dan Whatsize stretching back to the League Cup victory at Goole in November last year.
Club took a sixth minute lead when a corner to the far post saw Ashley Longstaff turn and hook the ball into the far corner.
Sheffield had a goal ruled out for offside after Longstaff touched home a Jonah Gosling shot. However, Longstaff got on the end of a Gosling pass to put Sheffield 2-0 up. Wakefield pulled one back five minutes before the break when they were awarded a penalty which Danny South converted. But three minutes into the second half David Graham restored the two-goal cushion sweeping the ball home from six-yards.
Sheffield made the tie safe with the fourth, Matt Glass slotting home from a Steve Woolley through ball. Wakefield reduced the deficit five minutes from time through Chris Walton.
In the Evo-Stik Premier Division, Stocksbridge Park Steels earned a point in a 2-2 draw with fourth-placed Bradford Park Avenue at Bracken Moor, though Gary Marrow side may feel a little disappointed after letting slip a two goal lead. Brian Cusworth gave Steels a 54th minute lead tapping in an Anthony Lloyd free-kick from close range. Cusworth doubled the advantage 10 minutes later with a diving header from another Lloyd free-kick.
Bradford pulled one back within a minute, James Riley heading in from a corner then levelled it up on 77 through Nicky Boshell. Steels though twice went close to taking all three-points when Jack Muldoon fired inches over after breaking clear, then the striker was unlucky to find the side netting after turning his marker inside the area. Parkgate won 2-0 at Louth Town in the Baris League Cup second round. Chris Wood scored a penalty with Ashley Worsfold, sealing the tie.
