FOOTBALL’S lengthy pre-season friendly campaign starts tonight with local clubs in action and Parkgate involved in a tough two days at the end of the week.

They have an attractive first home game on Friday when they meet Macclesfield Town whose manager, Gary Simpson, is a friend of Parkgate boss Doug Shelley, a fellow Sheffielder.

Simpson watched several Parkgate games last season when Macclesfield had no game.

The night before, Parkgate play Pinxton in the Teversal Tournament, an eight team tournament hosted by the Notts club and which is scheduled to run over the next two weeks.

It begins with the opening game when Steveley MW meet Handsworth tonight at Teversal (7.45pm).

Also kicking off tonight are Dinnington Town who host a young Sheffield Wednesday XI at Phoenix Park (7.30pm). On Thursday, Armthorpe host a Doncaster Rovers side.
